Sleep is perhaps one of the most important activities for the proper development of your baby. As a matter of fact, babies need as much as 16 to 20 hours of sound, comfortable sleep every day till the age of about six months. Sleep deprivation can lead to some serious health problems, especially during the early development. So, making sure that your little cherub is sleeping comfortably is one of your priorities as a parent. While some parent may prefer to have their little ones sleep in the same bed as themselves, it is not such a great idea for obvious reasons. What you need is a comfortable, cozy crib that your baby can sleep in peacefully.

Although every parent wants to have a beautiful and palatial crib for their precious bundle of joy, the space constraints in modern apartments put an end to that notion, fast! If you relate to this situation, what you need is a crib that is as comfortable as a huge one you saw in that magazine but small enough to fit in your nursery.

In this article, I am going to talk about some of the best mini cribs on the market that occupy less space and yet offer the comfort and security of a full sized crib. Thankfully, there are a ton of great options when it comes to mini cribs, and if you know what to look for, you can find one that is just perfect for you and your baby.

Dream On Me 4 in 1 Aden Convertible Mini Crib

One of the best mini cribs on the market, the Dream on Me is a comfortable mini crib that can be converted easily into a daybed and even into a twin size bed. One of the best features of this crib is its build quality. The material that is used in the construction is top-notch, and it shows.

The crib is incredibly easy to assemble as well. All the tools that you will need are included. I am not particularly handy with tools, and yet I was able to assemble this in less than an hour, which is a new personal record for me!

I also love the way it looks as well. The white color fits in with almost any decor that you might have for your nursery.

As I alluded earlier, one of the best features of this crib is its versatility. You can convert this crib into a toddler bed or even a twin bed in no time. With an excellent build quality, this crib will last a long time and offers a great value for your money.

As far as safety is concerned, the crib is ASTM and CPSC certified. The crib is tested for lead and other toxic chemicals as well.

The Dream On Me is a great mini crib if you have a smaller apartment and you can’t get wrong in picking this one!

PROS

  • Sturdy construction
  • Can be converted into a toddler bed or a daybed
  • Meets ASTM and CPSC quality standards
  • Available in multiple colors
  • Easy to assemble

CONS

  • The only issue that I have with this crib is that it can be a bit difficult to move between rooms. It would have been nice if it had wheels, but other than that, it is a great mini crib.

Delta Children Portable Mini Crib

If you are looking for a mini crib that is easy to move around in your apartment, then the Delta Children is a crib for you. It is an unpretentious little crib that does one job but does that to perfection. Sure, you won't be able to convert it into a daybed or a toddler bed, but it is a heck of a mini crib.

One of the best features of this crib has to be the portability. It is an incredibly easy crib to move around. Thanks to the built-in wheels on its feet, you can just stroll it into whatever room you like.

The front and back rails of this crib are stationary, and you won't be able to move them. So, keep that in mind. The crib has two mattress positions to allow for better security and safety to toddlers who can crawl out of the crib.

The crib meets all the ASTM and CPSC standards as well. I also loved the fact that it is an easy crib to assemble as well.

Another great thing that I love about this mini crib is that it folds neatly when not in use and can be tucked under your bed. If you are strapped for space in your small apartment, this is a crib that you definitely should give a try.

Overall, the quality and craftsmanship of this crib are excellent, and I have no reservations in recommending this crib whatsoever.

PROS

  • Solid build quality
  • Can be moved easily
  • Meets ASTM and CPSC quality standards
  • Can be folded and stored easily
  • Light and easy to assemble

CONS

  • Although the crib is great, the wheels are on the smaller side and if you have a thick carpet, it can be a bit difficult to move. That said, it is better than most other cribs with wheels.

DaVinci Kalani 2 in 1 Mini Crib

If you are looking for a mini crib that is as easy to move around your house as it is to convert into a daybed, the DaVinci Kalani is a crib for you. It features an excellent design that allows for an easy conversion from a crib to a daybed. The mini crib is made with the finest materials and will last for quite a long time.

One of the best features of this mini crib is that it offers two mattress positions so that you can have your infant as well as toddler safe and protected. The slats on the crib are also appropriately spaced, and they don't have any sharp edges.

The crib is made from 100% sustainable, high-quality Pine wood, so you know you are getting the best regarding quality and durability.

As far as safety is concerned, the Kalani crib is both ASTM and CPSC certified. The paint and other fittings used in the crib are also tested for heavy metals and other toxic chemicals.

The crib is quite versatile as well as it can easily convert into a twin sized bed, although you will need to spend some extra cash to get the conversion kit. The crib also comes with a waterproof mattress cover that protects the mattresses from accidents that invariably happen with infants.

The DaVinci is one of the best and well-made cribs on the market, and I heartily endorse it.

Union 3 in 1 Convertible Crib

The Union 3-in-1 crib is one of the best convertible mini cribs on the market. Made from 100% sustainable pine wood, it is one of the cribs that can do it all. It can be converted into a toddler bed, a twin sized bed and even has as many as four height adjustments for the mattress.

Although the crib is slightly on the bigger side, it still can qualify as a mini crib. I just love the pinewood finish of the crib as well. All the material and paints used in the crib are lab-tested for lead and other heavy metals.

As far as the safety is concerned, the crib is both ASTM and CPSC compliant. Although this crib is not as easy to move around, it is better than some I have tested.

The mattress can be adjusted in two positions as well so you don’t have to worry about changing it anytime soon.

It is an ideal crib if you have a slightly larger nursery. If you are not hard pressed for space, I would strongly suggest to check this crib out.

Babyletto Origami Mini Crib

Although the Babyletto Origami is one of the more expensive cribs on this list, it is well worth its price. Made from durable New Zealand Pine wood, the crib is made to last for years to come.

One of the best features that I love about this crib is that it can be folded neatly and stored easily. The attention to detail with this crib is just incredible. All the little parts including the smallest screws and washers are made with quality material.

What to look for in a mini crib?

As with most baby products, there is no dearth of mini baby cribs on the market. While having many options is not necessarily a bad thing, it can cause some confusion, which I am sure you have experienced. Most of the mini cribs on the market do look a lot alike, and they all claim to be the best for your baby. But you know that all of them can’t be the best, right?

So, the question is- how to pick the best mini crib for your baby that is safe, comfortable, affordable and compact?

Well, it depends on whether you are looking for the features that matter. Here are some of the features that you should be looking for when picking the best mini crib.

The size

You already are short on space, and hence you want a crib that will fit in your small nursery. But there is so much more to consider in term of size as well.

Although you are buying a mini crib, you want a crib that can accommodate your growing child. By that I mean, the crib should not be so small that your baby will outgrow it in a few months. Trust me; you don’t want to buy a crib every few months!

Some mini cribs also have an innovative design that allows them to be adjusted for a growing baby. Such cribs offer a better value compared to the ones that do not have this feature.

So, the bottom line is- pick a crib that is mini, but not too small to accommodate your growing child.

The safety

Safety is of utmost importance while choosing any product for your baby and cribs are no exception. Your child is going to spend a significant time in the crib, and you want it to be as safe as possible.

Things such as the height of the rails, distance between the slats and the ability to slide the rails up or down are critical to consider. Make sure that you are purchasing a mini crib that is not too small so that your baby can climb out of it in the middle of the night when he/she is big enough.

The distance between the slats is also an important thing to consider as the babies can have their hands or legs stuck between the slats if they are too broad. Having slats is a good thing, but the distance between them is a major factor to consider.

The ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials) and CPSC (Consumer Product Safety Commission) often certify baby products including cribs. Look for their certification to make sure that the crib that you are purchasing meets the quality and safety standards set forth by the US government. I would strongly suggest staying away from cribs that are not certified by these agencies. Most manufacturers display these certifications front and center, and they are not that difficult to spot. If you don’t find these certifications, better stay away from such cribs.

The versatility

Some of the best mini cribs on the market are quite versatile as well. They are designed with growing baby in mind. These cribs can be easily converted into a toddler bed or even into a daybed! Talk about a thinking a product through!

Mini cribs are not inexpensive products, and if they are versatile, they make a sound investment. Make sure that you are paying extra attention to the versatility of the mini crib when you are selecting one.

The transportability

Another feature that I like to consider is the transportability of a mini crib. There are times when you want the baby to sleep in the same room as you. In those instances, the ability to take the crib into your room quickly is a huge deal. Some of the best mini cribs are designed with this in mind. They have wheels and other systems that make transporting them a breeze. You can have your baby crib in any room of the house in a matter of minutes!

Although most mini cribs do have this feature, some of them are better at this than the others. Make sure that you are paying attention to this feature if you are planning to move your baby’s crib a lot.

The weight

It goes without saying that you want a crib that is not too heavy, especially if you are planning to move it between rooms. That said, the crib should have some weight to it as well. If the crib is too light weight, it may increase the risk of the baby tipping it over, and you don’t want that!

So, there is a balance to be achieved here. You want a crib that is light enough to be moved between the rooms but heavy enough that your baby doesn't topple it over. The cribs that I will be reviewing in the following section do have a nice weight to them and yet they are easy to be moved between rooms. Make sure you are also considering this aspect when you are purchasing a mini crib.

The price

Although the price is a subjective thing, you don’t want to overspend on a product that is not worth it. I mean if you can get the same features and safety at an affordable price, why not?

While picking out the best mini crib, make sure that you are choosing the one that offers the best value for your dollar.

The verdict

After testing some of the best mini cribs on the market, the Dream On Me 4 in 1 Aden Convertible Mini Crib edges out the competition. The crib can be easily converted into a daybed and a toddler bed without having to purchase any additional kits.

The material used in the construction of this crib is excellent, and it is built to last for years. With both ASTM and CPSC compliance, it also scores big on the safety factor.

If you are in the market for a mini crib that will not break your bank and will give you the best bang for your buck, the Dream On Me 4 in 1 Aden Convertible Mini Crib is an excellent choice.
